About the Challenge

What will participants gain from the Challenge?

Through the Challenge, participants will receive:

  • Seed funding opportunities, and fast-track access to other competitions.
  • Extensive media coverage increases public exposure and brand visibility.
  • Mentorship, one-to-one consultation, and co-working spaces in Hong Kong and Shenzhen.
  • Empowering training, demo days, and investor roadshows to showcase your ideas.
  • Integrate startup and technology innovation resources and broaden co-operation channels.

What is the schedule for the Challenge?

The Challenge schedule is as follows:

Online Registration → Preliminary Selection → Regional Preliminary Competition and Roadshow → Pre-final Coaching → Grand Finale (January 2027 on HKU Campus)

Tracks and Eligibility

What are the eligibility criteria for the Start-up Track?

  • The company or institution to which the participating project belongs must be registered and established on or after 28 February 2025.
  • Projects must have received no more than one round of equity investment from institutions or individuals (including seed or angel investments).
  • There must be at least two core team members.
  • Applicants must be students, staff, or alumni of the University of Hong Kong, or be nominated by any of the aforementioned individuals.
  • Projects must comply with current laws, focus on business model innovation or technological innovation, and possess uncontested proprietary intellectual property rights or key technologies related to the product or technology. They should also exhibit innovation, uniqueness, and potential for commercial development.
  • Projects that have placed in the top three in HKU innovation and entrepreneurship competitions on or before 10 February 2026, are not eligible to participate.

What are the eligibility criteria for the Growth Track?

  • The company or institution to which the participating project belongs must be registered and established before 28 February 2025.
  • Projects must have completed at least one angel investment round or higher, with cumulative funding not exceeding RMB 100 million.
  • The participating companies must have at least 10 employees.
  • Applicants must be students, staff, or alumni of the University of Hong Kong, or be nominated by any of the aforementioned individuals.
  • Projects must comply with current laws, focus on business model innovation or technological innovation, and possess uncontested proprietary intellectual property rights or key technologies related to the product or technology. They should also exhibit innovation, uniqueness, and potential for commercial development.
  • Projects that have placed in the top three in HKU innovation and entrepreneurship competitions on or before 10 February 2026, are not eligible to participate.

What languages are accepted for the Challenge?

Chinese or English.

What application materials are required?

Required application materials include:

  • A copy of the project leader's ID card/passport
  • A copy of the highest-level academic degree certificates
  • A copy of Business License
  • Roadshow presentation PPT
  • Brief introduction of team members
  • Business plan (for Growth Track only)
  • Other relevant materials

Note: The Challenge accepts applications via the centralised online application platform only. Please ensure that all submitted information is authentic, legal, and valid.

What is the application deadline?

16:00 on 21 May 2026 (HK Time / GMT+8)

What are the special notices regarding participation?

  • The information and materials submitted must be true, legal, complete, and valid. Plagiarism, misappropriation, or fraud will result in participants bearing all responsibilities and consequences.
  • The Organising Committee reserves the right to reject applications or cancel qualifications/prizes if conditions are not met.
  • The Organising Committee does not charge any fees to participants, nor does it allow any institution or individual to collect fees in the name of the competition.
  • The Organiser may use participant and project information for reporting, display, publicity, and other competition-related activities.
  • Participants join voluntarily. They may withdraw but cannot claim compensation for expenses incurred.
  • Prohibited from making any political, violent, discriminatory, illegal, infringing, hateful, or sexually suggestive statements, or any content that harms the reputation of sponsors or partners.
  • Due to force majeure, the Organising Committee has the right to adjust the schedule and format.
  • The Organising Committee has the final right to interpret the rules.
  • The Organising Committee will contact all applicants after the registration period ends.

Is there support for overseas participants?

To encourage wider international participation, semi-final interviews for overseas startups will be conducted online. Startups selected for the Grand Finale will be provided with accommodation subsidies to support their in-person participation in Hong Kong.
