Founder of Dianmex, Professor of HKU
Prof. Chu earned his B.S. in Physics from Northwest University (China) in 2008 and his Ph.D. in Physics from The Chinese University of Hong Kong in 2012. He conducted his postdoctoral research at the University of Stuttgart, Germany, from 2014 to 2016. In November 2018, he joined The University of Hong Kong as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering with a joint appointment in the School of Biomedical Sciences, and was promoted to Associate Professor with tenure in November 2024. His work has been recognized with several prestigious awards, including a Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs of the Year Award (2025), and a Gold Medal at the International Exhibition of Inventions of Geneva (2024). Recently, he co-founded DiamNEX Ltd., a company dedicated to producing high-quality diamond membranes. His research focuses on CVD diamond, nanodiamonds, NV centers, quantum sensing, and diamond semiconductors.
