Council Chairman of HKU
Dr. Peter T.S. Wong is the Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited and The Hongkong Bank Foundation.
Dr. Wong served as Chief Executive of HSBC Asia-Pacific for 11 years before retiring in June 2021. He joined in 2005 as Group General Manager and Executive Director, Hong Kong and mainland China before assuming the position of Chief Executive for Asia-Pacific in February 2010. He became Deputy Chairman of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited in May 2013.
Dr. Wong’s banking career began in 1980 when he joined Citibank. In 1997 he joined to Standard Chartered Bank, and was appointed Greater China CEO in 2000.
He was a member of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA), Chairman of The Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, and Chairman of the Executive Committee of The Community Chest of Hong Kong. In addition, he was the Chairman of the Hong Kong Association of Banks for four terms.
Dr. Wong was appointed Chairman of The University of Hong Kong Council in 2024. Additionally, he chairs the Nominations Committee, and is a member of the Committee on Honorary University Fellows. He is also an Honorary Professor of HKU’s Business and Economics Faculty.
He holds honorary doctorates from Lingnan University (Doctor of Business Administration, 2023) and the Hang Seng University of Hong Kong (Doctor of Laws, 2023). He was awarded a Gold Bauhinia Star in 2020.
